Ohana CIC, Hope for Homes

Our story

A family that meets you at the front door.

Ohana CIC is a community-led Community Interest Company supporting survivors of domestic abuse as they transition from emergency or temporary accommodation into a home of their own. Across Central Bedfordshire, survivors can receive a tenancy with little or no belongings, no bedding and little support to settle in. We help bridge that gap with essentials and a warm, practical welcome.

“Ohana” means family, chosen, found, and built together. We believe rebuilding a home is the first chapter of rebuilding a life.

The need

Domestic abuse is a leading driver of homelessness in Central Bedfordshire. Survivors on low incomes may arrive at a new tenancy with few or no belongings and little money to replace them. Without a bed, a kettle or a kitchen chair, it can be much harder to make a safe property feel like home and settle into a new tenancy.

Our solution

We deliver home starter kits, light decorating, cleaning and settling-in support, working alongside (never duplicating) statutory and advocacy partners. Items are sourced responsibly through reuse centres, community donations and partner organisations, keeping costs low and reducing landfill.

Clear boundaries

Ohana CIC is not a crisis service. We don't duplicate the essential work delivered by DART (Impakt Housing & Support) or other advocacy partners. We begin at the move-on stage, when housing is secured, focused on tenancy sustainment, dignity and prevention of repeat homelessness.

“Ohana CIC strengthens existing commissioned services by delivering post-crisis, practical home-creation support that reduces repeat homelessness and improves tenancy stability.”
